Leeds are well-equipped in attack, not only for the Championship, but for a side that could finish up in the Premier League, and Daniel James is crucial to that – and his form will be causing Daniel Farke problems.
In the summer, James, 25, returned to Leeds. It follows a difficult loan spell at Fulham, when he failed to get consistent game time, starting only six of 23 games either side of the winter World Cup in Qatar.
After a difficult loan, James may have needed some time to regain his best form. However, his stats imply otherwise. He immediately adjusted to life in Leeds and has continued to shine for Wales.
James has five goals in ten appearances for Leeds, including a 2-1 win over Bristol City last weekend. He has carried his form into Wales duty, coming on as a substitute against Gibraltar on Wednesday.
He came on in place of Ipswich winger Wes Burns, who is out with a shoulder injury. The Welsh won 4-0, with James contributing two assists to his tally of seven goals and assists.
James is in top form, giving Farke a Leeds headache.
Six of them have witnessed him become a provider. James is putting up some of his finest numbers in his career, with his best season in terms of numbers coming in 2018-19, his final season with Swansea. He appeared in 44 games.
For club and country, he scored six goals and provided ten assists. He’s almost halfway there. End product has always been a concern for the £25 million Manchester United deal. Not right now.
Leeds also has Jaidon Anthony, Ian Poveda, Cree Summerville, and the returning Willy Gnonto to contend with. However, James‘ physique cannot be overlooked. For Leeds, he must start on a regular basis.
