updates on Dane Scarlett

Tottenham transfer news and gossip, including updates on Dane Scarlett.

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be among the busier Premier League clubs during the January transfer window. Ange Postecoglou is likely to be backed in the transfer market once more, with the club targeting a new centre-back.

Jean-Clair Todibo has been linked with a move to Tottenham this month, with sources indicating that talks between the club and the player are ongoing. Luka Vuskovic was at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday to witness Tottenham beat Everton, putting him one step closer to making Postecoglou’s squad.

Scarlett Dane Tottenham’s return and what it means for Ange Postecoglou following his loan from Ipswich

Dane Scarlett is set to rejoin Tottenham Hotspur in January following a frustrating loan spell at Ipswich Town. After spending the entire pre-season with Spurs and appearing in friendlies and the Carabao Cup under Ange Postecoglou, the decision was taken late in August for the striker to go out on loan to enhance his development.

Signing a season-long deal with Ipswich after their promotion from League One appeared to be the ideal move for the 19-year-old, who had spent the previous season on loan at Portsmouth. Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna had already talked lyrical about Scarlett during his loan spell at Pompey, but the regular playing time the striker craved with the Championship high-flyers never materialised.

Scarlett has only made 12 appearances off the bench for the Tractor Boys this season, since he was inserted late in games due to the Tractor Boys‘ established lineup after a dominant promotion to England’s second division. His 45-minute cameo in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup elimination to Fulham also played against him at Ipswich, as he was cup tied for their two cup games at a time when he should have started.

Dane Scarlett‘s time at Ipswich Town could be coming to an end, with a return to Tottenham Hotspur appearing likely due to scant minutes for the Championship team.

Scarlett was not in the Ipswich squad for Saturday’s crucial encounter against fellow promotion candidates Leeds United, and the Ipswich manager was questioned about her absence in his post-match news conference. Having revealed that conversations have already taken place with Tottenham about the player, it appears that Scarlett‘s stay in Suffolk will be cut short and he will return to N17 as soon as possible.

“There are currently discussions with Tottenham.” “It appears very likely that he will be recalled at the start of January,” stated the Ipswich manager, according to the East Anglian Daily Times. “Tottenham have injury issues at the moment and they have their main forward going to the Asian Cup.”

football.london recently chatted with East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star reporter Alex Jones on Scarlett’s first three months at Portman Road. Jones admitted that he hasn’t looked out of place in the Championship, but added that some supporters weren’t convinced by Scarlett, and that the player’s lack of consistent playing time hadn’t helped his cause.

“It’s been frustrating, more than anything,” he told me. “Fans were confident he’d have a big impact, with Kieran McKenna previously highlighting his ability ahead of Ipswich‘s League One game against Portsmouth last season.” Some considered the loan as an odd move given that he would face stiff competition for the lone striker position, with George Hirst, Freddie Ladapo, and Kayden Jackson all vying for it.

“He’s shown flashes of real quality, and he doesn’t look out of place in the Championship, but the nature of his cameo appearances has been extremely difficult.” He’s doing practically everything Ipswich asks of him at the moment, but it’s not much, which must be frustrating for him.”

“Fans aren’t convinced, I don’t think,” he continued. One fan messaged me to say that he has yet to see what Scarlett provides as a No. 9, and that he appears to be a ‘lightweight’ for the division, which I understand.

“At the same time, he recognises that he hasn’t had many chances.” Nobody is particularly disappointed with what he’s done at Ipswich, but I worry whether he’ll be frustrated by his limited opportunities.”

Scarlett’s upcoming return to his parent club strongly suggests that Spurs believe the best place for him to aid his progression is back at the club due to his struggle for minutes at Ipswich after leaving Tottenham. Whereas in the past, Tottenham would recall players from loan spells in January before sending them on loan elsewhere, Scarlett will be unable to do so due to his solitary appearance for Tottenham in 2023/24, as he has already played for the maximum of two clubs in a season.

That means Postecoglou will have another option in attack for the rest of the season with the Tottenham academy graduate. Spurs have already lost Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon to injury this season, and Son Heung-min will be sidelined for a while at the start of the year due to his involvement in the Asian Cup.

Scarlett, who clearly impressed Postecoglou during pre-season, might find himself on the Tottenham bench in the coming months, including the forthcoming FA Cup third round match against Burnley at home on Friday, January 5.
