Sources: Significant update on Marc Roca’s agreement to join Leeds United
Football Insider has received information from sources that Leeds United and Real Betis are moving forward with a permanent agreement for Marc Roca.
After joining the La Liga team on loan this summer, negotiations to go to the team are well advanced.
The 27-year-old Roca is keen to close the transaction and cut all ties with Leeds.
After just one season at Elland Road, he has told his agency to get him a permanent move to Betis.
Roca has been a constant for Manuel Pellegrini’s team, starting 16 of their 18 league games in the top tier of Spain and scoring two goals and dishing out one assist.
He has also started each of their six group-stage matches in Europa League season, which has made him a mainstay.
But after placing third in their group and earning a position in the Conference League, the seventh-place La Liga team was unable to advance to the knockout stages.
Following his £10 million summer transfer from Bayern Munich, the defensive midfielder made 36 appearances for Leeds across all competitions, managing one goal and two assists.
A relegation release clause in his contract allowed Roca, one of many Leeds stars, to return to his home country of Spain following the Whites’ Championship relegation.
Leeds defeated Ipswich Town 4-0 on Saturday (December 23), putting them squarely in the running to return to the Premier League under new manager Daniel Farke.
After the Elland Road victory, they trimmed the seven-point deficit between them and the Tractor Boys, who are currently ranked second in the league.
They play Preston North End the following Tuesday, December 26.
