“It appears unlikely,” says an injury expert, who also gives the estimated recovery date for the starting midfielder

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is unlikely to return to first-team training until the first week of January, according to injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar.

Following a lengthy injury that kept him out of action from February to November, the Uruguayan made his way back to the starting lineup.

Unfortunately, though, his comeback was short-lived as he sustained an ankle injury during his first start in nine months. After making a reckless tackle in the match against Aston Villa, Matty Cash sustained an injury that has kept him out of the game for some time.

Ange stated in the beginning of December that he would be gone for two months, putting his projected return date at the end of January.

According to the Tottenham News, the injury expert’s program will currently focus on the rehabilitation components before returning to the training surface.

He stated:

“If it’s two months, as Ange claims, his current training regimen is still very much focused on rehab and then returning to pitch work.”

“It’s difficult to say how far he is from individual training because it all depends on how he reacts to increasing intensity.”

“It seems unlikely that he’ll be back to full-team training for the next week or two but an individual training return may soon be on the cards.”

Spurs are expected to recruit a new midfielder in the forthcoming transfer window, with Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City being one of the most heavily mentioned names.

Spurs will be missing Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Bentancur, and James Maddison in January, leaving Ange with few choices in midfield.

Spurs will need to sign a new midfielder and defense early in the transfer window.
