Farke confirms that he will utilize a player for the first time in the next game

Daniel Farke will have to fill in for Illan Meslier for the next three games after the Leeds United goalkeeper was sent off against Preston North End.

Illan Meslier

Meslier, who received a red card for approaching Preston’s Ben Whiteman and subsequently pushing Milutin Osmajic in the face, will be replaced by Karl Darlow. Illan Meslier, who was on course for a second consecutive clean sheet, will now miss three games, including meetings against West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City, and Peterborough United.

Manager Daniel Farke mentioned summer signing Karl Darlow in his post-match news conference via Leeds Live, stating that Darlow, who had only played twice before the Preston game in Carabao Cup matches against Chesterfield and Salford, is likely to fill in for Meslier.

Daniel Farke complimented Karl Darlow as a “brilliant lad,” but warned that with Meslier sent off, the Leeds team will need to modify their playing style. The red card, which was regarded mild even by Ryan Lowe, will necessitate changes in the squad’s approach in the absence of Meslier, who adds a tactical element to the team.

Meslier’s position as a sweeper keeper in the back line allows for a formation approaching a three-man defense, allowing the full-backs to advance.

Darlow, while strong with the ball at his feet, may fall short of Meslier’s quality in this area. Meslier is expected to restore his starting spot when he returns from suspension.
