Willy Gnonto of Leeds United could leave Elland Road in January for a Premier League club, as the Italian has struggled to start for the Whites, having failed to do so since the loss to Stoke City.
Gnonto, 20, has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Leeds. Gnonto refused to play against West Brom in the rematch in August, and he also declined to play against Birmingham and Shrewsbury.
It has caused him to drop out of the starting XI, along with the form of both Crysencio Summerville and Dan James. Out wide, the duo has been outstanding. Gnonto is said to be the subject of an internal tug of war.
Leeds and Gnonto are said to be discussing a new contract, but some are open to selling him. Jones has now provided an update on Give Me Sport, stating that something is wrong with Gnonto. “I’m sure they’d prefer him to be in top form and start games because he should be the best player in the division, not just at Leeds.” “The fact that he isn’t indicates that something isn’t right here,” Jones explained. “It’ll be interesting to see if a Premier League club comes calling to see if they can tempt him away.” That did not appear to be the case a few weeks ago, but you never know.”
Gnonto has shown a lot of promise in a Leeds shirt. Last season, his performance against Aston Villa, his goal against Manchester United, and his brace in a 5-2 win over Cardiff City in the FA Cup replay. Gnonto is an exceptional performer. A player who deserves to play for Italy. But he needs to do more off the bench to c⁶onvince Daniel Farke that he deserves a starting spot. James‘ performance has dipped in recent games. Perhaps, against West Brom, Gnonto could replace James in the starting lineup tonight and have the opportunity to show Farke what he is capable of – against a team he previously refused to play against.
