Patrick Bamford is the man of the moment after scoring a spectacular header in Leeds United’s 3-0 win over Birmingham City on Monday, but a choice he took in December rocked The 49ers.
After being given his first start for Leeds this season on New Year’s Day, Bamford scored his first goal since a 4-1 loss to Bournemouth in April. He headed into the net after getting on the end of a Dan James cross.
A magnificent header that earned Daniel Farke‘s plaudits after the game, with Farke claiming that Bamford had recovered his trust. Bamford’s missed penalties against Newcastle and Stoke seem like a lifetime ago.
Phil Hay says that Bamford, now with beach-blonde hair reminiscent of Elland Road legend Alan Smith, startled The 49ers in December by changing his hairstyle last month. Many people were taken aback.

It was a breath-taking moment. A hairdo change is hardly a journalistic finding or a news story. But the abrupt transformation of a man deficient in shape and, perhaps, confidence was pretty startling.
After all, £10 million Bamford was not lacking in self-assurance. His new blonde bob is a sign to people around him that he is still serious about business. He scored in his first start of the season. Nothing more can be done.
Bamford also hit the post and, from the looks of it, escaped unhurt. After a few weeks of bad form, Joel Piroe will undoubtedly be anxious about his place in the team. Perhaps it is time for Bamford.
