Phil Hay discloses Leeds United’s interest in transferring the Nottingham Forest player

Daniel Farke’s January Leeds transfer shortlist once again includes Neco Williams, who the Whites coveted in the summer. Although United hasn’t made any additions during the January transfer window, several unexpected transactions have already been completed.

This was in the shape of Djed Spence returning to Tottenham Hotspur, having had his season-long loan agreement terminated midway through following only seven Whites outings.
Spence spent two months of his stay in West Yorkshire sidelined due to injury and illness, but following a string of starts in December, he was benched on New Year’s Day against Birmingham City, marking the final Leeds fan encounter the 23-year-old in a matchday squad.

The loan arrangement was dissolved due to Spence‘s attitude and lack of professionalism, as hinted by Leeds manager Daniel Farke. Despite this, United will continue to play without the Spurs player for the second half of the season.

Nottingham Forest defender Williams is a target for Leeds United
Following Spence‘s return to Tottenham, the Leeds management is considering possible full-back acquisitions; Josh Doig of Hellas Verona is one player who has previously been connected.

But according to Phil Hay of The Athletic, another player they have their eye on is Neco Williams, a versatile defender for Nottingham Forest who can play full-back, wing-back, or even as a winger.

Hay stated on The Square Ball Podcast, “A few people have been telling us that they like Neco Williams at Forest as well, but I don’t think there is much – or any – scope for Forest letting him out.”
“I have to add that everything at Leeds regarding transfers is currently extremely quiet, but he appears to be well within Nuno‘s plans, or at least highly regarded by Nuno.

“I did pick up on the quotes from Farke last week that we’re quite well covered at full-back, but it doesn’t really feel like that, I have to be honest, looking at this squad, it doesn’t feel like they’re absolutely rock solid in those positions.”Once more, you would anticipate some strengthening prior to the window closing.”

Williams’ Forest predicament means Leeds will probably have to go elsewhere

Williams has only appeared in 11 Premier League games this season and has only started one of Nuno‘s three domestic league games in charge. Nevertheless, a deal was not reached, and he has stayed at the City Ground.

Williams has only made 11 Premier League appearances this season, and he has only started one of Nuno’s three domestic league games in charge. Nevertheless, a deal was not reached, and he has stayed at the City Ground.

The Portuguese manager has favored Gonzalo Montiel in the last two matches, but Williams will probably be required to provide backup at the Tricky Trees for both full-back positions.

With Junior Firpo at left-back, Jamie Shackleton at right-back, Sam Byram being able to play on both sides, Archie Gray doing a good job on the right-hand side, and that’s even taking away Luke Ayling who might be on the move, Leeds aren’t exactly lacking in those areas themselves.

Even if Doig and Williams do not perform well, the team may use a true natural on one of the two sides of the field to step in and start. For this reason, the connections to them are intriguing.

Williams’ apparent lack of availability means that if United wants to get active in the transfer market, they will need to scout and consider other options.
