Spurs defender Djed Spence is practicing with the under-21 team after loan deal was terminated

Djed Spence was ordered to train with Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-21 team, thus it looks that he won’t be playing for the first team this season.

The twenty-three-year-old full-back, who cost £12.5 million when he signed with Tottenham from Middlesbrough in July 2022, went on season-long loan to Championship team Leeds in August. However, his loan was terminated in January after he was only able to make seven league appearances due to a knee injury that kept him out of action for more than two months. Spence, who has only made six appearances for Tottenham since his move, is currently training with the team’s Under-21s until he can arrange a transfer elsewhere, according to football london. In fact, Fabrizio Romano claims the North London club is already considering loaning the player out again for the balance of the 2023–24 season.

Spence cannot play for three different clubs in the same season, thus a loan move would be impossible if he returned to Spurs.

What caused Spence’s loan to be cancelled earlier this month, then? Daniel Farke, the manager of Leeds, has stated that one of the causes was worries about his attitude.

“I don’t want to talk too much about Djed right now, because he’s back at Tottenham and I totally respect that he’s their player,” he said.

“Listen, in the summer we came here in order to create and to bring new values and to create a new culture within the club and when we speak about a player if he’s on here on a permanent or a loan deal, we have expectations and these expectations are in several topics important.”

Farke went on, “The player’s potential and quality are obviously important, but so are his professionalism, discipline, workload both on and off the field, and soft skills. If he is also positive, committed, a good member of the team, and interested in these topics, that paints a more or less clear picture.

“And we decided okay, this is the player we want in our group and want to represent Leeds United, our demands are very, very high and we don’t differ between loan players, permanent players so we are pretty picky in this topic.”
Spence is anticipated to finalize his loan departure from Spurs in the next few days.

When questioned about whether he could see himself winning trophies with the Spurs, Ange Postecoglou had the coldest response.

The former Celtic manager has had a significant impact at Spurs, turning them into one of the league’s most attractive teams, even with the loss of talisman Harry Kane in the summer.

After 20 games, Spurs are in fifth place, just six points behind leaders Liverpool, despite having led the table early on due to a number of injuries.
The North London team will hope to do better in the FA Cup when they play Burnley on Friday night. The team was knocked from the Carabao Cup on penalties against Fulham in the second round.

The Spurs last won a trophy in 2008. Postecoglou was asked if he imagined himself holding trophies during a press conference recently.

During news conferences, the 58-year-old maintained his excellent performance by responding, “I’ve got real images, mate. Mate, there are a lot of them. No, buddy, I merely glance at the ones I own.”
Postecoglou said, “No, I’ve earned them, I’m not lucky!” to the journalist’s statement that he was “lucky” to be able to accomplish that.

In addition to league championships from Scotland, Australia, and Japan, Postecoglou‘s trophy collection now includes an international Asian Cup victory from 2015.

Although he has already won three Premier League Manager of the Month titles, accolades will be the true test of his abilities.

The last major prize the Spurs have won is the League Cup, which they won under Juande Ramos over 16 years ago.

During his inaugural press conference, Postecoglou was asked about the drought and he made an immediate impression.

“You’ve given us a quite depressing image. I was thrilled to have this position, he jokingly said.

That being said, that is the reason I am here. I adore everything about it, including the parts that are absent. And I want to bring that with me. I want to introduce football to Europe and success. I want this club to be in its rightful place.”
