Cristian Stellini has given his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence, ahead of his possible loan move to Genoa

Tottenham are on the verge of signing Radu Dragusin today. The Romanian has allegedly passed his physical, and if his signing is confirmed, Spence will move in the opposite direction on loan until the end of the season.

Cristian Stellini spent nearly 17 months at Tottenham, first as Antonio Conte’s assistant and then as the club’s temporary manager.

The 49-year-old may not be remembered fondly by Spurs fans due to the outcomes he achieved, but he does have a better understanding of Spurs players than we do.

Following news that Djed Spence is set to join Genoa on loan till the end of the season as part of the Radu Dragusin deal, Italian outlet Buon Calcio A Tutti contacted Stellini to get his thoughts on the 23-year-old Tottenham defender.

The Italian described Spence as a terrific talent with incredible speed, explosiveness, and physicality, but he still has a lot of potential for improvement, particularly in attack.

Stellini stated: “Spence is a very polite, reticent boy. I would describe him as very calm, with excellent explosiveness and quickness. The English league is full with these types of physically gifted players.

“He is a 23-year-old lad with a lot of opportunity for improvement, particularly in the closing phase of the game: both finishing and assisting. He clearly needs to mature; otherwise, he would not be as young.

“However, he is a player with exceptional physicality and technical ability to play tight. He can be deadly at a standstill or at high speeds. In the past, he made an unnecessarily large jump in category, winning a Serie B championship with Nottingham Forrest and then joining Tottenham, a very powerful team.

“Genoa is a good opportunity for him and to demonstrate his talent.”

Ange Postecoglou was irritated by Spence’s attitude.

Djed Spence signed Tottenham from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 for £20 million (Sky Sports).

Many major teams wanted to sign the brilliant full-back, but Daniel Levy outbid them all.

However, Spence has only played 41 minutes of senior football for Tottenham and has already been loaned out twice. He is about to embark on his third spell away from Spurs, this time with Genoa.

Ange Postecoglou hasn’t given him a chance since the Spurs manager was unimpressed with the full-back in preseason.

According to the Evening Standard, Spence battled with punctuality and did not maintain the proper attitude. That made the choice to let him leave this month rather simple.
