After Leeds United’s promotion opponents suffered a setback, an opportunity arose.

A Leeds United chance has presented itself in the form of a double setback for a major Championship promotion opponent.

Leaders Leicester City flew to Coventry City on Saturday lunchtime, and Enzo Maresca‘s team took the lead in the 44th minute thanks to a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall penalty.

However, three minutes later, Foxes star Abdul Fatawu was issued a straight red card for a challenge on full-back Jake Bidwell at the conclusion of the half, as part of a day that swiftly turned bad for Leicester, who lost 3-1.

Callum O’Hare drew the Sky Blues equal with 11 minutes remaining before Milan van Ewijk put Coventry ahead with one minute left. O’Hare then scored his second goal and Coventry‘s third in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Leicester remain at the top of the table, but their setback gives Leeds the opportunity to close the deficit to 14 points with a win at Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

Leicester are ten points ahead of second-placed Ipswich Town, thirteen ahead of third-placed Southampton, and seventeen ahead of Leeds, despite having played one more game.

As part of a double blow, Foxes star Fatawu is also looking at a three-match ban, assuming his expulsion is not rescinded on appeal.
