Alan Shearer predicts where Tottenham will finish in the Premier League this season

Following Sunday’s draw, Alan Shearer has shared his thoughts on where Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the league.

Spurs fought back heroically twice against Manchester United on Sunday but may be unhappy not to have taken all three points.

Ange‘s courageous and energetic side demonstrated all of the traits of the team that Tottenham fans have fallen in love with once more this season.

Rodrigo Bentancur, in particular, put up a terrific performance, which Jamie Redknapp praised following the game.

And, given these excellent performances, which frequently result in Spurs taking three points, it’s interesting to consider where the team will end in the league.

Tottenham‘s eighth-place result last year wasn’t good enough; the team belongs in European football.

Following Sunday’s encounter, Alan Shearer has shared his thoughts on where Postecoglou’s Tottenham team will finish this season.

Shearer predicted a return to European football during an appearance on the podcast ‘The Rest Is Football’.

However, some Spurs fans may believe he underestimates their potential.

Alan Shearer believes Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team is still in contention for fourth place.

Shearer remarked on the podcast, “I have been impressed with them, and I think they will be there or thereabouts to get into fourth or fifth.”

Spurs are currently in fifth place, level on points with Arsenal despite having played one more game.

The margin to Aston Villa is currently three points, after both sides drew on their travels yesterday.

And, while Shearer feels it would be a close call, Postecoglou will undoubtedly hope that his youthful Tottenham team is a lock for a top four berth.

Given that Manchester City and Liverpool appear to be back in the title fight, the Spurs manager will undoubtedly target both Villa and Arsenal in the coming months.

Fortunately for the top five, there is a six-point buffer between Spurs and sixth-place West Ham United.

Postecoglou has laid some solid foundations this season, and it appears that everyone at the club is on board with his objectives.

Spurs now have a vacation until the 26th of January, when they will face Manchester City in the FA Cup.

It will be interesting to see if they are able to attract a good young midfielder during that time.
