Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg may have played for Manchester United yesterday, but his future remains unknown.
The Danish midfielder continues to play for Ange Postecoglou and is regarded as a model professional. But he also understands that he is not the first choice and is only being selected now out of necessity.
Hojbjerg has been linked with a departure from the club in January. Juventus and Ajax have been widely linked, while David Ornstein has claimed that Premier League clubs would also be interested.
However, Hojbjerg appears to be staying put for the time being.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could stay with Tottenham.
Fabrizio Romano discussed Hojbjerg’s position on his Here We Go Podcast last night, providing an update on where things are with the midfielder.
“We are aware that Pierre-Hojbjerg’s situation remains open. We’ve heard a lot of rumors from Italian teams, but based on what I’m hearing right now, it’s not happening for Napoli or Juventus. That’s why it’s too early to say who Tottenham’s new midfielder will be,” Romano remarked.
Hojbjerg signed for Spurs for £15 million in 2020. Since then, he’s been employed frequently, but some fans believe he’s creatively constrained at times.
A good team player.
A good team and squad are not necessarily defined solely by the headline-grabbing stars. You need people working behind the scenes and players who go about their business quietly. Hojbjerg seems to be one of those players.
Selling Hojbjerg would be counterproductive right now, given the club’s injury situation.
The Danish midfielder performed well against Manchester United yesterday, and given that it is the January transfer season, Spurs will struggle to bring in someone better on short notice.
Hojbjerg should be told that he isn’t going anywhere this month.
