According to Tuttomercatoweb, Leeds United is currently in the running to sign Spezia goalkeeper Bartlomej Dragowski, but first they need to formally sell Illan Melier.
The Italian news source revealed on January 16 that the Whites won’t pursue the Polish goalkeeper until the Elland Road regular has left the team.
Although clubs in France and England are showing a lot of interest in signing Dragowski, Leeds United is thought to be leading the race.
Woah
Meslier’s exit rumors has subsided dramatically since last season, when the Frenchman experienced a dreadful year that contributed to the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League.
And the Frenchman has had a remarkable comeback at the club this season, establishing himself as the uncontested number one at the expense of Karl Darlow.
Meslier is a crucial element of the team, just like offensive players Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, therefore it appears doubtful that the German will allow him to leave in January.
However, given Meslier’s potential and ceiling in the European game, he might leave Elland Road even if Leeds United win promotion to the Premier League next season.
Any move to sign former Fiorentina goalkeeper Dragowski appears to be a long-term move, possibly to protect against a summer departure from Elland Road.
It’s amazing that the Whites may be prepared for the inevitable in Meslier’s case, and the Polish international is surely a viable option considering his form for Spezia in Serie A.
However, this new reality will not sit well with Darlow, who arrived to West Yorkshire expecting to be number one; five months later, he has become an unfortunate afterthought.
