As Leeds United considers their options before to the January transfer window shutting, they need defensive reinforcements.
Due to a dearth of choices in that area, Leeds United needs to add at least one defender during the January transfer window if they hope to avoid a potentially dangerous situation going forward. Leeds is already shorthanded in that area after Djed Spence ended his miserable tenure at the club and Luke Ayling left to join Middlesbrough on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Manager Daniel Farke has occasionally had to change his team due to injuries that have already claimed the lives of players like Liam Cooper and Junior Firpo in defence. One such move that proved to be quite effective was moving Archie Gray from midfield to right back. Whatever the decision, choices are required, and it is suggested that a left- and right-sided defender be looked for.
Ryan Giles of Luton Town is a new name to come into the picture to play at full back. The 23-year-old defender is a real candidate to join Leeds, according to Football Insider, since he is one of the team’s priority targets. Giles may have come as a surprise to some, considering he was only purchased last summer for a reported £5 million, but the Hatters may consider extending a loan to allow the player to continue playing.
Given his relatively young age and experience playing in both the Premier League and the Championship with teams like Blackburn Rovers, Cardif City, and Coventry City, Giles would provide Farke with the expertise he needs.
For the remainder of the season, Giles would provide a solution to the left-back dilemma while other options were investigated to fortify the defence even further.
