Report: Man United ‘keen’ to beat Tottenham to the 26-year-old defender

According to Football Transfers, Manchester United are preparing to make a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Ko Itakura, who is also wanted by Tottenham.

Itakura has improved dramatically since joining Gladbach 18 months ago, and it appears that the Japanese international’s performances have piqued the interest of several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham.

Sky Sports Germany reported on Wednesday that Spurs and Liverpool are both interested in the 26-year-old, who is currently competing in the Asian Cup with the Blue Samurai.

Ange Postecoglou had previously attempted to sign the defender for Celtic and could now try to reunite with the centre-back at Tottenham.

According to the tabloid, the Gladbach star’s contract has a release clause of roughly €10m-€15m (£8.5m-£12.8m) that can be exercised next summer.

Ko Itakura

Manchester United poised to ratchet up Ko Itakura pursuit.

According to Football Transfers, Itakura’s release clause is £13 million and is active for the current transfer window.

They claim that the inexpensive price is one of the reasons the Manchester club is interested in signing the defender, given their financial restraints.

According to the source, Erik Ten Hag is also interested in the former Schalke star’s versatility, with the Red Devils believed to be ‘motivated’ to outbid Liverpool and Tottenham for his services.

Ko Itakura

According to the publication, the Lilywhites and Reds are primarily interested in Itakura for next summer, leaving the door open for Manchester United to pounce for him now.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would be fascinating to watch whether Tottenham is obliged to move for Itakura during the current transfer window if they perceive Manchester United moving forward with a move for the centre-back. I’d be astonished if the Lilywhites did so now that Dragusin had entered through the door.
