Sources: Big news on Wilfried Gnonto’s departure from Leeds United following new talks

Wilfried Gnonto will remain at Leeds United this month, despite interest from the Premier League, according to Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke said that the Whites want to keep the Italy international to boost their promotion campaign.

According to Football Insider (20 January), West Ham United were favourites to bring Gnonto back to the top division, with manager David Moyes a big fan of the speedy winger.

However, a January exit for the 20-year-old is unlikely after further talks with manager Daniel Farke, who is keen to keep threatening talent in the club.

Everton had serious interest in Gnonto, reportedly submitting a bid of £25.7 million in the summer.

He attempted to seek a move following Leeds’ relegation last season and was forced to train separately from the first team.

However, he returned to the fray and has now made 21 appearances in the second tier.

He has only one goal and one assist in all competitions, and he has only started seven Championship games for Farke.

Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville have excelled in the attacking areas, but Gnonto has mostly been deployed as an impact substitute.

Leeds are still busy this month in their efforts to boost their squad for the second half of the season, despite not bringing in any new faces to date.

Leeds vs Norwich

According to Football Insider (January 24), preliminary talks have begun about a loan-to-buy move for Everton standout Ben Godfrey.

Leeds are fourth in the Championship table following their 2-1 victory over Preston North End on Sunday (January 21).

They face fellow proportion chasers Norwich City on Wednesday evening (January 24).
