Emerson Royal has recently been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has asked that the midfielder stay at the club.
Emerson Royal‘s career at Tottenham has been full with ups and downs. The Brazilian joined the club from Barcelona in 2021, but has battled to establish himself until recently.
Under Ange Postecoglou, Royal has demonstrated his usefulness to the squad this season by filling in throughout the entire back four. He has made 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring once (Transfermarkt).
His recent ability to provide much-needed cover at centre-back in the absence of both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven has won the 25-year-old high acclaim from those close to the club.
Tottenham rejected an offer for Royal from Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia last week, but the club is expected to return with an improved deal. According to talkSPORT, both the player and his manager are content and would not approve a move otherwise.
Postecoglou hopes to keep Emerson Royal.
Now that Ange Postecoglou has spoken on the topic, it appears unlikely that Royal will leave the club anytime soon.
Regarding the speculation, Postecoglou told Football.London: “I’m not sure of the event you’re referring to; no one has questioned me about Emerson, but he’s been quite essential to us. Without Emerson and Ben during this time, we would have struggled greatly.
“In addition to playing at centre-back, I’ve also filled in at right-back and left-back on occasion. He is a terrific guy to have in the group; he works hard every day and is an excellent player. Emerson is an important element of what we’re doing because he plays for Brazil’s national team.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no chance Emerson Royal will leave the club this month, and I believe the work he has done this season will keep him in Postecoglou’s plans for the foreseeable future.
