Leeds United require the services of a new goalkeeper.
Illan Meslier appears to be leaving the Yorkshire club in the coming days, and with Karl Darlow rumoured to be moving to Bournemouth rather than Leeds, they need to look into alternative options.
According to Phil Hay of The Square Ball Podcast, Leeds is considering other candidates, including Angus Gunn.
Daniel Farke knows the £10m Norwich custodian from his time at Carrow Road, and a reunion might be in the cards, according to Hay.
Gunn is an option.
Hay revealed what he knows of Leeds‘ goaltender search.
“They looked at James Trafford, but he’s been ruled out.” Others they enjoy include Freddie Woodman and Angus Gunn. “It’s reasonable to assume that Farke will not want to go into the first game of the season not knowing who his starting quarterback will be for the duration,” Hay said.
A good option
Angus Gunn isn’t the best custodian in the world, but he’ll be fine for a team like Leeds this season.
To be honest, the Whites are projected to dominate the Championship this season, so Gunn won’t have a difficult time if he joins them.
Gunn understands what the Championship is all about, and while he hasn’t been spectacular recently, there’s a reason Southampton and Norwich paid significant money for him in recent years.
Gunn, who stands 6ft 5 in height, is a dominating custodian who is ideal for the rough and tumble of the English second division.
Leeds needs to add quality Championship players to their roster this season, and Gunn fits the bill.
