Connor Roberts passes medical ahead of Leeds United deal.
As the transfer deadline approaches, Connor Roberts has moved one step closer to joining Leeds United from Burnley.
During a busy conclusion to the current mid-season window, Leeds United saw Burnley full-back Connor Roberts pass his medical ahead of a move to Elland Road, and journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, explained why this is such a good coup for Daniel Farke.
Farke, who was appointed Whites manager in July 2023, had a fantastic summer window in control of the club, signing Joel Piroe, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, and Glen Kamara for more than £30 million.
Leeds completes deal for main target Roberts.
The Whites, who are currently fourth in England’s second tier but are still vying for promotion back to the Premier League at the first opportunity, had prioritised right-back as a position of need after Djed Spence‘s loan deal was cut short and long-term asset Luke Ayling left for Middlesbrough.
As a result, Farke was sorely lacking depth in that area of the pitch, and Burnley ace Roberts was quickly identified as the club’s top target. According to The Athletic, Leeds and Burnley have agreed on a deal that will see Roberts join the second division club on a temporary basis, with no obligation to buy.
So far this season, Roberts, who was in the final 18 months of his £30,000-a-week Turf Moor contract at the turn of the year, has made 16 appearances in all competitions, totaling 850 minutes of action. According to MailOnline, Leeds were not the only club interested in signing the 54-cap Wales international this January, with Premier League sides Brentford and Feyenoord also monitoring his status as the transfer deadline approached.
Ben Jacobs-Roberts ‘fits the bill’ in Leeds
Jacobs claimed that Farke and his recruitment staff had been working relentlessly behind the scenes in the latter parts of the current window, and that top target Roberts had now successfully finished his physical and would join the Championship club shortly. The respected writer, who believes the 28-year-old fits the bill at Elland Road, stated that he has been a priority target for a few weeks. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs stated:
“Leeds United have been quite busy in the final few hours of the window. Connor Roberts, a big target for Leeds in the final few weeks of the transfer window, has completed his medical and is likely to join from Burnley. There was a need to add a fullback, and Roberts fits the criteria.
Farke targets late move for Newcastle’s Paul Dummett.
With Roberts presumably ready to arrive and bolster the right side of Leeds’ defence, Newcastle United ace Paul Dummett has been courted by the Yorkshire club, according to Football Insider, as a left-back but also in the heart of defence. The report does imply that the 32-year-old, who has dropped significantly down the Magpies’ pecking order, is also of interest to high-flying Ipswich Town, who are eager to add a wealth of experience as they begin on a potential title pursuit.
After rising through the Newcastle levels, Dummett has been a constant presence in the squad since breaking his senior duck 11 years ago. The versatile defender has already made 209 appearances for Newcastle, but his long-term contract with his hometown club may be coming to an end, with a number of clubs interested, including Leeds.
