Chelsea hero Eden Hazard refuses to concede that Tottenham Hotspur are currently better than the Blues.
Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been everlasting enemies since anyone can remember, and Blues veteran Eden Hazard reminded his old teammate John Obi Mikel not to laud their praises.
Spurs have performed better than Chelsea this season, with manager Ange Postecoglou transforming them into a Premier League force since his arrival last summer.
While Chelsea is suffering under former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs are one of the favorites to finish in the top four and were originally expected to fight for the title.
The North London team is fifth in the rankings after 25 games, two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, while the Blues are 10th and 14 points below the top four.
On the most recent episode of The Obi One Podcast, Mikel Obi mentioned Tottenham as a club that is currently better than Chelsea, but the Belgian was having none of it, promptly correcting him.
Hazard: “You see, I believe Manchester City are better than Chelsea. “You see, Liverpool is better than Chelsea.”
Obi: “Tottenham?”
Hazard said, “No, Tottenham are not.”
Obi says, “But right now, they’re playing a little better. They are playing well; they are currently third or fourth in the league.”
Hazard: “They are good footballers. That’s correct. You’re familiar with Tottenham, though. As a Chelsea icon, you cannot say that, dude.”
Obi: “That’s what we’re doing.” “I’m not saying they are going to win the league, though, but right now.”
Hazard: “That’s for sure.”
Obi goes on to say, “For sure, Tottenham and Arsenal, they are not going to win the league.”
Spurs have plainly been the better team this season, but no Chelsea fan can say it and wish them well.
The North Londoners are set to finish ahead of the Blues this season, but Pochettino will be anxious to win his first trophy in England when his team face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final later this month.
Spurs are certain to conclude another season without a trophy as their long drought continues, despite their present fine form, and Chelsea would have had a better season if they won the League Cup and Tottenham missed out on the Champions League.
