Tottenham: Jaden Philogene ‘ticks all the boxes’ for Spurs following February transfer update.
Jaden Philogene, an England youth international and Hull City winger, “ticks all the boxes” for Tottenham this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
TEAMtalk reported on Monday (26 February) that Spurs are now leading the battle to sign the Hull City winger, despite the fact that Aston Villa inserted a buy-back clause in his move from Villa Park last summer.
Aston Villacan sign the 22-year-old for £15 million if Liam Rosenier‘s side earns promotion this season. If Hull stays in the Championship, Unai Emery’s side will have to match whatever amount Spurs or any other team pays.
While Hutton believes Ange Postecoglou should attempt to sign the “absolutely outstanding” winger this summer, he acknowledges that Spurs may require players who can have an instant effect on the first-team squad.
“He definitely ticks all the boxes,” Hutton told The Tottenham News.
“To be honest, I do not think Villa should have let him go. Some of his performances have been truly amazing.
“Looking to the future and bringing in a young, motivated player who works hard and has the technical ability to integrate into your style of thinking and playing football, I believe is a smart move ahead.
“But you also need to add that quality right away. He’s not necessarily one for the future, but for the coming seasons, and they’ll also be looking to see if they can bring someone in to help the squad right now.
“It’s all about getting that balance right.”
Will Tottenham sign Jaden Philogene this summer instead of Aston Villa?
With eight goals and six assists in 20 league appearances this season, the 22-year-old has dominated the Championship and appears to be ready to make the move up to the Premier League.
But, with Lucas Bergvall already due to join Spurs’ ranks this summer after Tottenham beat Barcelona to his signature, Postecoglou must ensure that the balance of his squad is correct ahead of his second season in command at Hotspur Way.
