Leeds have made a statement in response to an incident that occurred during the club’s FA Cup fifth round match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Whites were defeated in west London, as Gallagher’s 90th-minute effort proved to be the difference on the night, with the Blues winning 3-2 to advance to the next round and ending Leeds’ competitive run.

Mateo Joseph scored twice against the Premier League side, but it wasn’t enough to keep Leeds from losing their first game of the year. However, the club has moved to confirm an incident involving a Leeds United fan that took place in the stands.

What transpired is unknown at this time, although a statement issued during the second half of the game stated it occurred in the Shed End stand of Stamford Bridge, where travelling supporters are housed, during the first half. The club insists that the incident is being examined, with emergency personnel taking responsibility of the matter.

The statement read: “Leeds United can confirm that an incident involving a Leeds United fan happened in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge during the first half of tonight’s FA Cup game.

“The situation is under investigation and is in the hands of emergency personnel.

“We will be making no further comment at this time.”
Daniel Farke‘s side took the lead in the capital as Joseph capitalised on Chelsea’s possession gaffe to put the Whites ahead. Moises Caicedo equalised, but Mykhailo Mudryk put the hosts ahead just before halftime.

Joseph scored his second goal in the 59th minute to tie the game, and despite having chances to win, Leeds couldn’t hang out, with Gallagher’s late attempt ending their FA Cup journey in the fifth round.
