The Leeds United fan who fell from Stamford Bridge’s upper deck on Wednesday night is a football hooligan who was sentenced in 2012 for hitting a former England custodian, Mail Sport can reveal.
Aaron Cawley, 33, was jailed for four months and banned from football for six years after going onto the pitch and striking then-Sheffield Wednesday goal keeper Chris Kirkland during a televised match in 2012.
Cawley is recovering in hospital following the fall, which occurred while Leeds fans celebrated Mateo Joseph‘s opening goal.
Despite his club ban, Cawley was spotted by television cameras at a Leeds match in 2016, hugging defender Pontus Jansson after he scored an equalising goal against Norwich.
Cawley had previously been banned from football for three years when he was 16 for violence.

He joined a group of fans on the lower tier, which also included thousands of away supporters.
Medical staff responded promptly to the situation and transported Cawley to a local hospital once he was removed from the ground.
Chelsea eventually defeated Leeds United 3-2 to advance to the FA Cup quarter-finals, the latest in a bitter rivalry that began more than 50 years ago.
