Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand could find himself in an unpleasant situation if Tottenham pursues their interest in the summer.
The Denmark international has been on Tottenham‘s radar for some years, but he grew up an Arsenal fan and has the club’s crest tattooed on his upper left arm.
Speaking to Portuguese source Record, Hjulmand, who idolised Patrick Vieira as a child, stated that his love for Arsenal was passed down from father.
‘My father was an Arsenal fan, and we used to watch games together as kids,’ he explained.
Given the fleeting nature of football, seeing players with tattoos of a club’s crest may seem unusual, but in Hjulmand’s case, it might lead to some unpleasant conversations.
According to Record, the 24-year-old is a target for Tottenham, with Ange Postecoglou aiming to replace Oliver Skipp and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, both of whom are expected to leave at the conclusion of the season.
According to the source, Tottenham dispatched scouts to observe Hjulmand play in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup against Benfica on Thursday, which Sporting won 2-1.
Hjulmand joined Sporting from Serie A club Lecce for £15.4 million last summer and quickly became a fixture in Ruben Amorim‘s squad.
He has started 32 of his 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and providing four assists.
Sporting currently leads the table with 59 points after 23 games, one point ahead of Benfica and seven ahead of Porto, but they have a game in hand on both.
