Alan Shearer has detected one significant difference between Ange Postecoglou and Mikel Arteta

Alan Shearer has identified one significant difference between Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou and Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta.

Both north London managers have garnered well-deserved acclaim for their performances this season.

Mikel Arteta has Arsenal back in contention for the Premier League title, while Ange Postecoglou is striving for a top-four finish at Tottenham.

Arteta and Postecoglou both put their sides up to attack the opposition and press high up the pitch.

While the two have some similar opinions about their football styles, Alan Shearer believes they differ significantly on the touchline.

Shearer has observed a significant difference between Arteta and Postecoglou.
In his last essay for The Athletic, Shearer argued that Arteta is more ‘demonstrative’ on the touchline than Postecoglou or Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.

Arteta puts himself front and centre, but Ange Postecoglou and Eddie Howe do the same with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, albeit in a very different way,” he stated in a statement.

“Neither Postecoglou nor Howe are demonstrative—quite the contrary—but they rarely stray from their technical domains. This is not a coincidence.

“As leaders, they put themselves front of shop, there to protect their players and soak up any flak.”

Arteta‘s touchline theatrics have frequently led to criticism of the Arsenal manager during his tenure in north London.

Most recently, Chris Sutton accused the Spaniard of being ‘over-emotional’ during their statement victory over Liverpool last month.

It’s unusual to see Postecoglou become animated on the sidelines. He frequently maintains a cool head in the bench, even when things aren’t going Tottenham’s way.

Whether Postecoglou’s method is better for his players is debatable.

Arteta‘s Arsenal team is doing well right now, and his enthusiasm is contagious among his players.
