Liverpool can jump four points clear of Manchester City on Sunday when the Reds meet the Citizens at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side is one of three clubs contending for the Premier League crown, alongside City and Arsenal.
With Klopp due to leave Anfield in the summer, a 20th Premier League title would be the perfect send-off for the Liverpool manager. A victory on Sunday would bring them one step closer to that goal.
However, City has its own designs that will make history. If they win this season, they will become the first team in English history to win four consecutive top-flight titles.
Although Mohamed Salah is expected to return for Liverpool, there is still one huge injury concern: Ibrahima Konate.
In Friday’s pre-match press conference, Klopp delivered an update on Konate‘s situation, acknowledging that the centre-back will require a scan.
According to the Liverpool website, “Ibou was rather positive last night [Thursday]; he thought he made the right decision at the right time, saying it’s better I go [off].”
“But how we know doesn’t mean much, regrettably. He will undoubtedly be scanned, but I do not yet have the results. “All the others are fine.”
Jarell Quansah might step in for Liverpool.
If Konate is missing for the game, Liverpool might possibly turn to Jarell Quansah alongside Virgil.
The 21-year-old has progressed through the Reds‘ levels over the last 15 years, impressing for the Under-21s before earning his senior debut in August of last year.
That seems like a distant memory now that he has established himself in the Liverpool first squad. He’s made 22 competitive appearances with the Reds.
Quansah is a “super-talented” player who has exceeded expectations for the Reds this season.
Robbie Earle said about Quansah on The 2 Robbies podcast last month: “He looks like he’s got everything you’d want in a top-class centre-back.
“Good size, good pace, good agility, and decent ball handling. He exudes a certain presence.
“And he’s one of those who I don’t ever see too much drama around him, or poor decisions. He looks like a 26, 27-year-old who’s come in the team.” City would be a huge test for him, but what better way to rubber-stamp his credentials as a bona fide Premier League star than against the very best?
