Arsenal leads Liverpool and Manchester City following the weekend’s matches. Roy Keane, former Manchester United captain, has shared his thoughts on how the title fight may unfold.
Roy Keane believes he cannot predict this season’s Premier League title competition, with only one point separating three teams, including Liverpool.
The Reds have been surpassed at the top of the table following the weekend’s games. Liverpool‘s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, combined with Arsenal‘s 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday, means that the Gunners currently lead Jürgen Klopp‘s side by goal difference, with Pep Guardiola‘s club trailing by only one point.
However, following this month’s international break, another big game awaits. Arsenal travels to City on March 31, and the lead in the title battle might change hands once more, with Liverpool hoping the outcome favours them.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool‘s match against City, Keane acknowledged that he doesn’t know which team he’d rather be playing for right now, with the fight for this season’s title appearing to come down to the wire.
“If you asked me which camp I’d be in, and I’m including Arsenal, I wouldn’t know which to pick to be honest,” the former Manchester United captain remarked live on Sky Sports.
“Arsenal are doing really well, they look strong physically, they look different to last year but then you have Man City who have had Haaland out injured and De Bruyne coming back after months out so it’s a really hard one to call.”
Keane went on to say, “Every squad wants to win football matches and trophies. When you consider the backdrop of the match, with Jürgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season, they have already won one title this season, but I’m always wary of writing off Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. What they’ve accomplished in recent years has been fantastic, and I find it difficult to make a decision.”
Liverpool.com says: Obviously, we’re going to back Liverpool to win, but making a prediction at this point is nearly difficult. There is little separating the three teams at the top of the standings, however Arsenal’s trip to City later this month could be critical in determining the title winner.
The good news for Liverpool is that if it and City win every game from here until the conclusion of the season, the Reds will win the title. It’s usually been the other way around in recent years, so that’s a huge plus, though winning every game is certainly easier said than done, especially with two additional trophies to contend for.
