Liverpool should buy a young centre defender to replace Joel Matip in the summer transfer window, and Jean-Clair Todibo’s name has come up again.
Nice-Matin stated in the January transfer window that the Reds have an advantage over Manchester United in securing the £51.5 million-rated French international, who is a personal friend of Anfield star Ibrahima Konate.
More recently, the French source broke another story, revealing that Liverpool did hold negotiations during the winter window but did not submit a proposal.
According to Nice-Matin (news image below), Newcastle, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Manchester United discussed Todibo during the past transfer window.
However, none of the Premier League clubs chose to make a serious bid for the Nice star.
The two-cap French defender started the season brilliantly, but his subsequent showing has been ordinary.
Todibo has helped Nice retain 12 clean sheets in 21 Ligue 1 starts, but the French club is winless in its previous six league games and is currently sixth in the table.
Last Friday, the former Barcelona midfielder scored an own goal to help Montpellier win all three points, and Todibo also had an argument with a fan after the game.
He is now struggling with his sports situation, and it would not be surprising if his price reduces in the summer.
Should Liverpool recruit Jean-Clair Todibo, estimated at £51.5 million, to replace Matip?
