Jurgen Klopp is poised to depart Liverpool at the end of the season, and Richard Keys has claimed that the Reds have reached an agreement with Xabi Alonso to become their next manager.
Broadcaster Richard Keys claims to have heard that Xabi Alonso has agreed to join Liverpool and replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
Klopp, 56, announced in January that he will stand down this summer, stating he is “running out of energy” and is “convinced” that leaving is the correct move.
Since succeeding Brendan Rodgers in October 2015, the German has won numerous major titles, including the Premier League and the Champions League.
However, the Reds now face the onerous chore of choosing a successor to Klopp, who has accomplished so much during his tenure at Anfield.
Former Liverpool midfielder Alonso is among the contenders to succeed Klopp.
Having led Bayer Leverkusen to 38 consecutive victories as they seek a historic first Bundesliga title.
And Keys has now confirmed that Alonso has decided to leave Leverkusen and move to Liverpool. He wrote on his blog.
“As I usually say when I disclose news like this, large deals can always go wrong.
There’s a lot that can go wrong when they’re blue riband, whether it’s a player or a coach/manager, but according to my source, Alonso has opted to join Liverpool.”
According to reports in Germany, Alonso would love to continue in the Bundesliga, and Bayern Munich is also interested in the sought-after Spaniard.
Thomas Tuchel will leave the Allianz Arena at the conclusion of the season, less than a year after leading Bayern to the title.
Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness spoke about their prospective pursuit of Alonso and intimated that he is their first choice candidate to succeed Tuchel this summer.
At a Munich trade fair, the 72-year-old stated, “He [Alonso] has proven that he can be a big-time coach.
“There are very few suitable coaches who are now available.
Rather, they are coaches who are under contract someplace and may achieve enormous success.
“That makes it much more difficult because clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Leverkusen, and FC Bayern are all working to sign Alonso.
It’s not easy to remind them that Bayern is the standard for everything.”
Alonso has over two years left on his contract with Leverkusen and might lead them to the Champions League next season.
With eight matches remaining, Leverkusen leads the table by ten points, and it would take an epic collapse for them to lose the title.
