According to Richard Keys, a BeinSports football presenter, Alonso has decided to sign with Liverpool.

The former Sky broadcaster says that Manchester United should have pursued the Spanish manager, but now that he is on his way to Merseyside, the Red Devils must find a better boss.

Key posted on his blog:

“United should look along the top shelf.” I get that this reduces the quantity of contenders, but there isn’t much true quality available. Deschamps? Yes. Zidane? Yes.

I was laughed out of court at the end of last year when I stated they should go get Alonso, make a deal with his ‘people’, and give him five years to do it right.

“My detractors replied, ‘No. What has he done? It’s too soon.

Really? Three months later, it’s not too soon for Liverpool to have convinced him to become their next manager.

As I often emphasise when I provide such news, large transactions can always go awry.

There’s a lot that can go wrong when they’re blue riband, whether it’s a player or a coach/manager, but according to my source, Alonso has opted to join Liverpool.”

The German club is notoriously known as ‘Neverkusen‘ for never winning a league title, but that is going to change this season under the supervision of Alonso, who is the favourite to win the Bundesliga in his first full season as head coach.

Jurgen Klopp will depart Liverpool at the end of the current season, and if Alonso joins, he will have big shoes to fill after the German manager won every major title at the club.
