Gary Lineker offers James Maddison’s verdict after England’s draw with Belgium

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison made a fantastic cameo appearance for England in their 2-2 friendly draw against Belgium on Tuesday night.

The Spurs playmaker started the game on the bench but came on with 15 minutes to go and made a significant contribution for the Three Lions.

With seconds left in the game and England down 2-1, Ollie Watkins retained the ball on the byline near the Belgium goal and headed it to Maddison.

Despite being surrounded by four blue shirts, the Tottenham star was able to pass the ball back to the unmarked Jude Bellingham, who promptly scored.

Spurs legend Gary Lineker took to X after the game to congratulate Maddison and Bellingham for their contributions in England‘s last-gasp equaliser.

What has Gary Lineker said about Spurs’ James Maddison?
Lineker praised the Tottenham player’s “brilliant” performance and the Real Madrid player’s “excellent finish”.

The BBC Sport analyst also praised the Three Lions’ performance on the night, despite “a couple of errors.”

Maddison has been a revelation for Tottenham since signing for a whopping £40 million last summer.

From an England standpoint, it’s unfortunate that he didn’t get much playing time during the most recent international break.

But from a Spurs standpoint, it’s fantastic. Maddison hasn’t had to put in too much effort for these two friendlies, which bodes well for the north Londoners’ preparation.

It will be fascinating to see how Tottenham performs in the next weeks, with a Champions League position at stake. Also, it will be interesting to see how England performs at Euro 2024.

The Three Lions have a fantastic midfield, with Maddison, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Kobbie Mainoo all set to offer Southgate a difficult decision.
