Confirmed: Leeds United player out for season following “complicated” 2.5-hour surgery

Pascal Struijk, a Leeds United defender, will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for an adductor injury, according to manager Daniel Farke.

The Whites are returning from the international break with a number of issues for important players ahead of their trip to Watford this weekend.

International duty has taken its toll on a squad that was already facing a demanding schedule from March onward.

Pascal Struijk is officially out for the season.

Pascal Struijk has not played since the Boxing Day defeat to Preston North End, due to an adductor injury that has yet to be resolved.

Prior to the Millwall game, Daniel Farke stated that surgery was quickly becoming the most likely answer, which has now been confirmed by the German, who revealed that the “complicated” two-and-a-half-hour procedure was a success for Struijk.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he highlighted that the center-back’s recuperation is already underway (via Phil Hay).

In addition to Struijk’s season-ending injury, Farke‘s team now has three additional injury concerns, with Connor Roberts limping off late for Wales on Tuesday night and yet to be checked by the club’s medical staff.

Ilia Gruev reported ankle soreness following Bulgaria duty, while Willy Gnonto revealed hamstring pain after captaining Italy U21s this month.

Georginio Rutter‘s hernia operation was successful, and he participated in squad training today in preparation for his return to play this weekend.

Ampadu better stay in peak condition until the end of the season.

Struijk’s absence until the summer is not surprising given his recent history, but it emphasises how important Ethan Ampadu has been and will continue to be.

We cannot afford for the defender to sustain any type of injury since he has been critical in ensuring Struijk’s absence is dealt with.

As we prepare for Watford, our defence appears to be quite short, so we can only hope that some of the doubtful players aren’t as awful as they appear.
