An issue… Joe Cole thinks £17 million Tottenham player frequently seems genuinely uncomfortable

Joe Cole indicated that one Tottenham Hotspur player appeared uncomfortable on several times during their match against West Ham on Tuesday night.

Once again, Ange Postecoglou‘s team made things difficult for themselves. Spurs took the lead through Brennan Johnson, and Timo Werner did an excellent job sliding the ball across for the Welshman.

However, the two teams headed into the interval equal, with Kurt Zouma turning in a Jarrod Bowen corner for the home side at the London Stadium.

Zouma had lots of space inside the six-yard box. And with that, Joe Cole stated that one Tottenham player did not bask in the beauty of his goal.

Yves Bissouma initially targeted Michail Antonio in front of Guglielmo Vicario. Bissouma, on the other hand, backed away at the most critical moment. Vicario made a half-hearted attempt to claim the ball.

Joe Cole believes Tottenham player does not look comfortable at times.
Cole told TNT Sports (broadcast on 2/4; 21:11) that the Tottenham defence lacks faith in Vicario when it comes to dealing with dead ball situations.

“They’ve looked threatening from set pieces, especially Bowen on this side. And they are literally cramming Vicario here. Bowen has created a great ball, and Zouma simply steps off. Bissouma can be seen guarding Vicario. And then, just in the end, he neglects his obligations and walks away. Vicario runs, he’s in no man’s land, and it just falls off Zouma’s back,” he explained.

“This is where West Ham can enter the game. They appear so nervy and edgy as a group in set pieces. When you have a goalkeeper who isn’t comfortable with crosses, it makes you nervous. Every set piece is a difficulty, and you’re questioning what you’re doing. And West Ham have really taken advantage of that.”

Guglielmo Vicario compensates for his set-piece weaknesses.
Vicario has been an amazing Tottenham signing. James Maddison admitted to not understanding anything about Vicario before his £17 million move.

However, he has shown to be an inspired addition. In open play, he complements Ange Postecoglou‘s approach brilliantly. He is confident in possession and has excellent game reading skills.

According to FBRef, no goalkeeper was performing better against predicted goals conceded than the Italian going into Tuesday’s encounter. In the second half, he made a spectacular stop from Michail Antonio to keep the score at 1-1.

Tottenham, on the other hand, appears vulnerable from set pieces on occasion. Vicario will be unhappy with his role in the Hammers’ equaliser.
