Leeds United have received a disturbing update on Georginio Rutter’s future.
Georginio Rutter, 21, has emerged as a prominent player for Daniel Farke‘s team this season, after a difficult start to his Leeds career.
The French player, who joined Leeds from Hoffenheim for a claimed club record cost of £35.5 million in 2023, struggled to score goals as the club faced relegation in the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Nonetheless, Leeds are aiming to return to the top flight, but their promotion hopes were dashed with a 2-2 draw against Watford on Good Friday.
Rutter has recovered his top form in the Championship, scoring seven goals and providing 18 assists in 41 games in all competitions this season.
Leeds United will lose numerous key players if they do not get promoted.
According to Football Insider’s transfer correspondent Peter O’Rourke, if Leeds United fails to regain promotion to the Premier League, numerous players may leave the club in the summer.
On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke remarked, “If Leeds do not win promotion, there will be interest in Rutter and other top players at the club.” If such is the case, Gnonto and Summerville will be in high demand abroad.”
As the season draws to a close, Leeds is locked in a four-way contest for automatic promotion with Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton.
Ipswich Town presently leads the league with 87 points, with Leeds close behind in second place with 86. Leicester City are just one point behind Farke‘s team in third place, with a game in hand. Southampton now has 74 points with two games in hand on the top two.
The Championship promotion fight, as always, will come down to the wire, and Farke will need to meet the club’s aim or the Whites may face a fire sale this summer.
