I want folks who want to come to Spurs- Postecoglou

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has stated that he is not interested in signing players who only want to join the club if they qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs are fifth in the Premier League, with the top five set to qualify for next season’s restructured Champions League.

Postecoglou, on the other hand, has stated that he is unconcerned about the financial repercussions of Spurs’ elimination from the competition.

“I want people who want to come to Tottenham,” Postecoglou stated on Friday.

“I don’t want those players [who are tempted by Champions League football] because they do not want to come to Tottenham; they want to play in the Champions League.

“I am seeking for a specific type of character. We’ve had two windows so far, and I haven’t had any trouble getting players I want to this club despite not competing in the Champions League.”

Spurs posted losses for the fourth year in a row, with an £86.8 million deficit in their 2022-23 accounts, and chairman Daniel Levy stated the club is in talks with “prospective investors”.

Despite those losses, Tottenham, who placed eighth in the Premier League last season, saw revenue rise by 24% to £549.6 million, and they are not in danger of violating the Premier League’s profit and sustainability Regulations.

Postecoglou, who was appointed last summer, stated that the club will not be restricted in the transfer window, with plans “well underway.”

“There’s no doubt that from our perspective, we are not one of the clubs who are going to be as restricted as others,” stated the 58-year-old.

“I’ve had open communication about where we stand as a football club, and nothing I’ve taken on has surprised me in any way. We’re in a good situation, and maybe we can improve on it.”
