A rival divisional team of Leeds United has fired another Championship manager. With three games left in the season, Rotherham United, a competitor of Leeds United in the Championship, has relieved manager Leam Richardson of his duties.
The Millers’ relegation to League One was officially announced earlier this month. The other two positions have not yet been filled, and it appears that the race for the top spot will also go down to the wire.
Leeds native Richardson took over in December when Rotherham fired Matt Taylor, but he managed just two victories in 24 games, which led to his firing as the team now looks for new leadership.
The Millers have three games left and are 22 points from safety. Earlier in the season, Daniel Farke’s team easily defeated them 3-0 at Elland on February 10. “Rotherham United can confirm that the club have parted ways with first team Head Coach Leam Richardson with immediate effect,” the statement from the team stated.
Leam took over 24 matches across all competitions after being appointed in December 2023. Rob Kelly, the assistant head coach, has also departed the team.
“Everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank Leam and Rob for all their efforts and wish them well for the future.
The search to appoint a new first team manager is already under way, with further communication to follow in due course. Rotherham United will be making no further comment at this time.”
