Since joining Leeds United, Willy Gnonto has grown into an important member of the team. When Jesse Marsch was in charge, Gnonto joined on a hectic deadline day in the summer of 2022.
Since then, he has emerged as one of Leeds’ most promising young players. The 20-year-old was one of the few bright spots during Leeds’s relegation campaign the previous year, garnering praise from analysts such as Michael Owen.
Gnonto has fought hard to regain his place in the team after a trying summer during which he considered forcing a move out of Leeds. He eventually succeeded in doing so in February and hasn’t looked back.
Before suffering an injury while serving for his country, Gnonto scored six goals in nine starts. He was back in the starting lineup last.
Saturday, when he demonstrated that, even in defeat, he can be Daniel Farke’s main man.
Gnonto claims that a “special” comrade has really aided him at Leeds.
Several players were honoured for their efforts over the past few months at Leeds’ season-ending awards ceremony, which took place last night.
The winners of the different accolades given on that evening were Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling, Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville, and Ethan Ampadu.
Throughout the evening, Leeds shared videos of the winners getting their rewards on social media; Gnonto was even called to the stage with Summerville.
For as long as they have been members of the same club, the two players’ friendship has been known to be genuine. Last night, Gnonto was questioned about it.
The Italian adds he is “really grateful” to Summerville for having taken him under his wing since he first arrived at Elland Road.
“I think it is special,” he remarked. I am incredibly appreciative of him and all the other guys since they have been there for me since the day I arrived. I truly love spending every day with them.
Summerville and Gnonto can fire Leeds to promotion
Although Summerville has been showered with accolades of late, Gnonto has emerged as Leeds’ most productive attacker of late.
Despite Leeds’ loss the previous weekend, Gnonto was “excellent,” whereas players like Summerville and Georginio Rutter truly had trouble getting going.
Having said that, Summerville ought to feel a great deal of confidence following his recent accomplishments, which should be evident on the pitch.
There is no reason why these two can’t be the ones to propel Leeds to promotion in the upcoming weeks if they are both scoring goals at the same time.
