Alan Shearer believes James Maddison may be left out of England’s European Championship squad this summer.
Maddison enjoyed an incredible start to his Tottenham career, and was probably one of the finest players in the Premier League throughout the first few months of the season.
However, since returning from an extended injury layoff a few months ago, the offensive midfielder has struggled to regain his previous form.
His dismal record might also be attributed to Tottenham‘s troubles as a team in recent months, with opponents growing more adept at suppressing Ange Postecoglou‘s style and denying the Lilywhites’ attackers any room or time in the final third.

Madison has been a regular in recent England squads, and he came off the bench to have a significant impact in the Three Lions’ most recent match, a 2-2 draw with Belgium last month.
However, Shearer feels that the Tottenham player and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold may miss out on a flight to Germany.
The Newcastle great told The Rest Is Football podcast: “I don’t see it that simple. If there is a squad of 26, he (Trent) has a much better chance. If it’s a squad of 23, I think he’ll struggle to get in. Perhaps not Madders, either.
Given Jude Bellingham‘s form, Maddison is unlikely to start for England, but he will undoubtedly be included in the team. The Spurs star stands out from the rest of the team, which is why Southgate will want him on the bench.
