The three Premier League teams Arne Slot likes to watch from a distance at Feyenoord were announced, and there was no spot for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
When identifying three Premier League teams he loves to watch, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot neglected to include them.
The 45-year-old manager of Feyenoord has agreed to take over from leaving boss Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer, moving from the Eredivisie to the English premier league.
Slot is a passionate Premership observer despite having never played or coached outside of his home country of the Netherlands. However, Merseysiders could take issue with the teams he most enjoys watching play on television.
“There is no team in the world I would rather watch than Manchester City, followed by Napoli, Arsenal and Brighton,” he said.
“But City – and again it is not my intention to compare us with them – have a similar style of play to how we want to play with Feyenoord: 4-3-3, building up from the back, wanting to apply pressure quickly.
“Priding himself on his pre-match preparation, Slot also recognises a part of himself in City manager Pep Guardiola. “I certainly don’t want to compare myself to Pep, but he is a control freak just like me,” he stated.
“If I look at myself, I try to win a match in the week before it is played, by conveying the training, pre-match team talks and tactics to the players as perfectly as possible.”
With his high-pressing style of play, Slot helped Feyenoord win their first championship in six years last season. It is estimated that Slot will cost €9 million plus an additional €2 million (£9.4 million). As a result, he is now the third most expensive manager in Premier League history.
