According to Football Transfers, Manchester United have yet to make a decision on Brandon Williams’ future after Leeds were linked with a move.
The news agency reports on their official website (2 August) that Williams has impressed throughout pre-season and that Erik Ten Hag appreciates fostering youthful talent.
Daniel Farke wants to reconcile with the 22-year-old after their brief period together at Norwich (Independent, 1 August), but no decision has been made on whether Manchester United will allow him to go.
“Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has had a good pre-season campaign, but we’ve been told that no decision on his future has been made,” they said.
“Leeds have been linked with Williams, but nothing has progressed much at this point – the player is continuing his time working under Erik ten Hag over the summer.”
“At this point in the season, the club would prefer to make deals permanent, but Ten Hag enjoys developing young talent.” The 22-year-old full-back has been in excellent form during Manchester United‘s tour of the United States, but no formal decision has been made.”
Risk
Williams undoubtedly checks a lot of boxes for what Elland Road fans want to see from their players.
He is tremendously competitive, a tough tackler, good on the ball, both offensively and defensively, and is still young enough to improve drastically.
However, the rivalry between the two teams cannot be ignored, and the fact that he is such a die-hard Manchester United fan, as evidenced by how he shouted out Rio Ferdinand when Man City won the treble, may likely generate some friction.
However, if Farke wants him to compete at full-back, the club should look into it. He’s a right-footed left-back, which means he can play on both sides, and that versatility is really useful.
We don’t have much time to strengthen, so if Manchester United is going to keep us waiting until the end of the window, it might be worth looking elsewhere.
