Troy Deeney is shocked by the “weird take” that some Tottenham fans have told him about Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a busy finale to the Premier League season, with three games in the next eight days.

Spurs face struggling Burnley on Saturday before welcoming championship contenders Manchester City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night.
Ange Postecoglou’s side will finish the season with a trip to already-relegated Sheffield United next Sunday.

Tottenham’s match against Manchester City will be highly anticipated because it will have a significant impact on who will win the title this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side has a game in hand over Arsenal, so Gunners fans will be hoping their bitter rivals can do them a favour on the night.

As a result, some Spurs fans appear to have stated that they would not mind their team losing versus City in order to deal Arsenal a significant blow in the title chase.

Troy Deeney, writing in The Sun, discussed this “weird take” from some Tottenham fans.

What has Troy Deeney said regarding Tottenham vs. Manchester City and Arsenal’s title hopes?

Deeney added, “I know a few Tottenham fans who have told me they would love to see Ange Postecoglou start the kids against Manchester City on Tuesday night, so Arsenal cannot win the league.

“I have to be honest: it’s a ******* strange perspective. You dislike another team so badly that you want City to win again? Not a chance.

“I’m getting to the point where, as a football fan, I want a different team to win the league.” Not because the city is bad, but it gets dull.

“We want to see City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and, hopefully, Tottenham pushing and contending until the end of the season.

“I’d rather be sitting there thinking, ‘Blimey, who’s going to win the league?’ than, ‘This is a done deal, it’s City, roll on the summer,’ because the latter is a waste of time.

“So here we go: Tottenham should want to assist Arsenal win the title by beating City.

“It will give themselves and everyone else hope that they can win it one day.”

Tottenham are in a tricky situation, but professionalism will prevail.

Deeney’s suggestions that Tottenham should deliberately help Arsenal win the title are unlikely to be well received by Spurs fans.

One thing is beating Manchester City for their own purposes, which in this scenario would be to secure a Europa League position while also claiming a significant scalp ahead of next season.

Spurs will not be thinking about Arsenal during the game, and if they win, you can bet Gunners fans will say things like ‘cheers for helping us win the title, fellas’.

Tottenham is in a difficult situation, but the players are top-tier professionals with a lot to play for, so they will not let up versus City.
