Tottenham expert: Vicario’s worry surfaced following Man City’s turn

Guglielmo Vicario’s vulnerability from set pieces has sparked questions about his ability to play between the sticks for Tottenham this season.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Paul Robinson argued that Tottenham’s set-piece troubles are largely due to the custodian.

Ange Postecoglou’s club has conceded 16 goals from set-plays this season, ranking sixth in the Premier League.

The former Tottenham Hotspur custodian praised Vicario but warned that Premier League clubs would continue to exploit his weaknesses.

Vicario, Tottenham’s custodian, must improve as his weakness has been exploited.

The FA Cup match was cited as a watershed moment, with Spurs fans previously criticising the goalkeeper for his performance, according to Football Insider.

Robinson maintained that Vicario would have worked on this in training but must continue to improve throughout his time in North London.

“I think he’s struggled in the second half of the season,” he explained to Football Insider.

“I was and still am a huge fan of his. “He has had a strong start to the season, making excellent saves and decisions.”His depth perception is excellent because, with the defence playing such a high line, he must read the game extremely well, which he excels at.

“However, Manchester City came to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January and exposed Spurs’ problems with set plays.

“Vicario has contributed to that situation. He occasionally gets overly absorbed with the attackers around him. He is too preoccupied by the impact of the players to focus on the ball.Yes, I believe he is talented enough, but this has been identified as a weakness in his game, and he will need to improve on it further.

“When Premier League teams get that hint of weakness, they try to highlight it every week.”

In other news, Spurs want to sell nine players this summer as part of a roster revamp.
