A Leeds United player declares before their match against Southampton that “it’s the end” at Wembley.

Leeds United striker Joel Piroe is looking forward to his first trip to Wembley Stadium this week, and he says the team is completely focused on the task at hand.

Leeds’ playoff semi-final victory over Norwich City sparked wild celebrations, and rightfully so, as the club qualified for this week’s final.

However, unlike at St Mary’s, there was no pitch invasion; Leeds have one more game to earn promotion.

Joel Piroe, who played up front and had his greatest overall performance in a Leeds shirt, helped the club advance to the semi-finals.

The Whites have yet to see the best of the Dutchman, who has struggled to adapt into the system this season after spending two years as Swansea City’s main man and a reliable goal threat.

His stint at Swansea ended shortly after they lost the playoff final to Brentford in 2021, and he is excited to finally play at the historic Wembley Stadium.
Speaking with LeedsLive, he said this:

“I have not been. I had no idea before going to Swansea that they had reached the play-off final the previous year, and I still haven’t been. I’m quite glad we’re going there now. We know it’s the end.

Going to Wembley if you’re in the play-offs, but we have to take it one game at a time.

“We believe we can move up. We trust and believe in one another, and we must continue to believe. With our team, we need to believe in ourselves and go out there and make it happen.

“Of course, we are overjoyed and celebrated a little in the dressing room. But now we know we must look forward to Wembley.”

It’s fair to say that the £10.5 million Leeds paid on Piroe hasn’t been the most successful purchase, since he hasn’t been a suitable fit for the team.

However, his performance against Norwich was just incredible and demonstrates that he possesses the qualities we require, scoring and then assisting in the third.

He needs another 10/10 performance at Wembley if we are to beat Southampton in the final.
