Tottenham lead the fight to sign Chelsea’s target Buongiorno.

Tottenham Hotspur are supposedly winning the fight to capture Chelsea target and Torino player Alessandro Buongiorno this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

Spurs began the 2023/24 season with a relatively thin centre-back department, and due to the injuries of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, Ange Postecoglou was left without a specialist centre-back at one point during the season.

Although Eric Dier was on the squad, Postecoglou was never convinced by him, and the Englishman was permitted to leave the club in January. Following Dier’s departure, the Lilywhites agreed to sign Radu Dragusin from Genoa.

However, it appears like Postecoglou wants to add depth to Spurs’ defence this summer, given the club will have to play more games next season after securing their place in the Europa League.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are interested in signing Torino’s Buongiorno after being ‘convinced’ by his performances this season, and they will watch him play again this weekend in the final game of the season.

Welcome to Tottenham.

According to the article, despite Chelsea’s plans to sign the 24-year-old to boost their backline, Spurs are currently ‘strong favourites’ to win this race this summer.

TEAMtalk also reports that Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli, and AC Milan are interested in signing Buongiorno, but Torino has set a £34 million price tag on their top player, and none of the Italian teams will be able to gain his contract by spending that much money.

The 24-year-old has had a successful season in Serie A, scoring three goals and maintaining 14 clean sheets in 28 games, and he has now been named to the Italian national side.

Buongiorno, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall, is strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out of the back, makes solid defensive contributions, and perceives the game effectively.

So, if Tottenham decides to sign him, the Italian could be a wise choice. However, it would be interesting to watch if the North London club can eventually get the defender by defeating Chelsea in this race during the upcoming transfer window.
