Michael Brown predicts who will win the Championship play-off final. Leeds United or Southampton?

Former Leeds United footballer Michael Brown predicted the outcome of the Championship play-off final vs Southampton.

In the last game of English football’s domestic season, Leeds will aim to secure an immediate return to the Premier League in their first visit to Wembley Stadium since 2008.

Both sides missed out on automatic promotion in the final stages of the season after being relegated together a year earlier.

OPTA’s supercomputer predicted Leeds and Southampton would advance from their respective semi-finals, and given how easily they both did, it is difficult to deny that this is the correct final.

Southampton was the only team in the regular season to achieve a league double over Leeds, however they finished three points behind them in the table.

Brown predicts the winner of the Leeds vs Southampton play-off final.

Sunday’s encounter is the second of two major finals at Wembley Stadium this weekend, after the two Manchester clubs faced off in the FA Cup earlier today.

However, given the financial stakes, this is clearly the most important, and Brown is the latest of several commentators to make his forecast.

They are all visibly struggling to differentiate the two teams, with Graeme Souness and Troy Deeney supporting Leeds.

Dion Dublin, on the other hand, is one of several experts who believe Southampton will win, but Brown, appearing on BBC 5Live’s Friday Night Social, has backed his former club.

He stated, “I know Southampton triumphed at Leeds United on the final day, but I believe things are not fixed in stone. I don’t think I’ll focus too much on that. Leeds had a good reaction, winning 4-0 against Norwich.

“I believe they will have a minor advantage due to their experience, players, and aggressive style. It will be an entertaining contest, as both teams will try to get the ball.

“Overall, I believe Southampton has performed well. I believe Leeds are the favourites, but it is the playoffs, a difficult position, a tense one, and anything can happen.”

The Leeds vs Southampton final might decide James McAtee’s destiny.

Not only will Sunday’s victor be rewarded with Premier League football, but they will also receive a significant financial increase.

Whoever comes out on top this summer will have substantially greater discretion in terms of transfer spending.

Parachute payments are reduced by 10% in the second season following relegation, with the EFL’s PSR limits being far tighter than the Premier League.

There have already been suggestions that if they win, both sides will look to sign Manchester City offensive midfielder James McAtee for £20 million.

McAtee is a good young player that City is willing to trade, and with the interested clubs, it only adds another layer to an already exciting final.
