Spurs must finally axe Nuno failure; who is now worth 8 times less than Kulusevski

It’s time for the team to cut their losses on this Tottenham star.

Tottenham Hotspur are no exception, and while Ange Postecoglou performed admirably in his debut season, leading the team to Europa League qualification, he will require quality reinforcements to help him take the next step.

The Lilywhites must sell some players, including one attacker who joined the club under former manager Nuno Espírito Santo and is now worth eight times less than Dejan Kulusevski. While incomings are often the focus, sells are also necessary.

Bryan Gil’s Tottenham Hotspur Career

The player in question is Spanish winger Bryan Gil, who joined Spurs for £22 million from Sevilla in July 2021.

There was some enthusiasm surrounding the then-20-year-old at the time, as he had already earned a few senior Spain matches and was part of their team for the Tokyo Olympics, but in the three years following, it is tough to call his move a success.

In his debut season, the Barbate-born winger made 20 first-team appearances, failed to score, and gave one assist before being loaned out to La Liga side Valencia for six months, returning only one assist in 17 games.

His second season at Spurs was not much better, as he only made one assist in 11 games before returning to Spain for a second six-month loan, this time with Sevilla. He performed reasonably well there, scoring twice and contributing three assists in 24 games while also helping the team win the Europa League final.

However, this season has been his worst yet, as a combination of injuries and Postecoglou’s dislike for him resulted in the Spaniard making only 12 appearances, totaling 233 minutes, during which he was understandably unable to produce a single goal.

Overall, the 23-year-old has lost his spot on the club and any sense of positive momentum this season, and his current price reflects this.

Bryan Gil’s value in 2024

According to the CIES Football Observatory, Gil is currently only worth €10 million, which is somewhat less than £9 million, or almost £13 million less than Spurs paid for him in 2021.

It also means that the former Sevilla ace is no longer the club’s most significant winger, trailing only Manor Solomon and youth players Mikey Moore and Yago Santiago in importance.

Worse, his new price is eight times lower than Kulusevski’s €80 million valuation, which equates to approximately £68 million.

The Swede may not have put up figures comparable to other wingers like Bukayo Saka or Cole Palmer, but his 34 goal involvements in 96 games for the north Londoners is undeniably excellent, and with him only 24 years old, it’s understandable why the CIES values him so highly.

Finally, while keeping the former Juventus wideman should be a priority for the club in the future, selling Gil should also be considered, as his £40k-per-week salary are not now justified.

If they can dispose him this summer, as Fabrizio Romano has said, they may be able to collect a reasonable cost, however another season like this one next year might make him nearly hard to sell.
