Classy 70-goal striker to say ‘yes’ to massive Tottenham deal; crushing Arne Slot’s Liverpool ambitions.

Crushing Arne Slot’s Liverpool ambitions.

Tottenham appear to have been granted the go-ahead to sign Santiago Gimenez this summer, with reports in his home Mexico claiming the Feyenoord striker will choose to transfer to London over Liverpool, Southampton, and AC Milan.

The north London club has yet to properly replace Harry Kane as their No. 9, with Ange Postecoglou adapting to the loss of their inspirational striker last summer by asking Son Heung-min to play more centrally and leaning more heavily on Richarlison on occasion. However, the Tottenham manager has discovered that Son is far more productive playing on the left, whereas Richarlison’s 15 goals in 66 games for Spurs over two seasons indicates a clear room for growth.

In that regard, it has been rumoured that Postecoglou is willing to let the Brazilian leave this summer if a decent offer comes in, yet the player has labelled the reports as ‘false news’ in a massive statement of intent on his future.

All the same, it’s no surprise that Postecoglou, who watched Tottenham finish fifth and fall short of his goal of guiding the club back into the Champions League, is looking to add a new No. 9 to his squad ahead of the summer transfer window.

To that aim, the Australian has looked at a number of potential options, including Jonathan David, Benjamin Sesko, and Omar Marmoush, as well as Dominic Solanke, Ivan Toney, and Evan Ferguson, who are more local.

Gimenez, on the other hand, has been linked repeatedly, with the Feyenoord frontman first appearing on Spurs’ radar in the summer of 2023, when it became clear Kane would go.

Spurs transfers: Gimenez wants to move

Feyenoord won the Eredivisie last season, so it’s easy to see why the prolific Mexico international wanted to stay given their upcoming Champions League entrance.

TEAMtalk understands that Gimenez will now move on this summer, with Feyenoord unlikely to stand in his way if one of his suitors matches their lofty €45 million (£38.4 million) valuation – a fee that would shatter their transfer record, which currently stands at the €25 million paid by Leeds for Luis Sinisterra in 2022 and by Benfica for Orkun Kokcu a year later.

With Gimenez set to be their next big exit, suitors are understandably lining up to sign the 25-times capped Mexico international striker.

To that aim, AC Milan has been hot on his trail, while reports in Mexico in recent days have suggested that Southampton, following their play-off final triumph over Leeds United last weekend, could be interested in signing him.

Liverpool, who are now managed by Gimenez’s previous boss Arne Slot, have also been heavily connected with his signing.

However, according to two independent Mexican articles, Gimenez will most likely join Tottenham this summer, with the 23-year-old ready to say ‘yes’ to Postecoglou’s request.
