Charlie Cresswell makes a brave rallying call for Leeds United.

On the Official Leeds United Podcast, Charlie Cresswell urged his teammates to be brave in the face of the club’s high expectations in the Championship.

The Leeds defender, who recently signed a new contract with the club, stated that playing for and wanting to succeed at his boyhood club adds pressure and expectation, which the players will need to manage this season.
The Whites kick off their Championship season against Cardiff on Sunday, August 6, looking to start things off with a bang at Elland Road.

“I think playing for Leeds United brings a lot of expectation and a lot of pressure,” Cresswell said on the Official Leeds United Podcast. But I don’t think you can hide from that if you really want to play and succeed for the club.

“I believe you must bring it to the forefront and sit with it in order to progress and succeed as you desire.” It can come back and bite you in the bum if you hide it and push it to one side.

“Not just me, but the entire team this season needs to be brave and understand that there will be expectations.” To attain our goals, we must choose daring and fortitude.”

Following their relegation from the Premier League, Leeds United‘s expectations are understandably through the roof, with the majority of fans and analysts projecting an immediate return to the top flight, an expectation that can weigh heavy on the shoulders of his squad.

As fantastic as Cresswell‘s statements are, in that he believes he will be able to manage the demands on him and use them to progress, this will not be the case for the entire squad, thus it is up to Farke to relieve the strain.

The centre-back’s remarks reveal the type of player he is. He’s highly focused, ambitious, and measured, and he’s continuing to prove Leeds wrong with the new contract he’s been given ahead of the next Championship season.

These remarks came after Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson claimed Leeds have a target on their back this season, as they are a scalp that every team in the Championship would be aiming to capture in order to get their season started.
