Tottenham will hijack Aston Villa’s raid on Chelsea as outrageous Conor Gallagher transfer cost disclosed

Aston Villa has initiated talks with Chelsea about signing midfielder Conor Gallagher, but Tottenham intends to submit their own bid despite the player’s exorbitant price.

Gallagher, 24, has only 12 months left on his current contract at Chelsea. The Blues have attempted to tie Gallagher down to new terms, but have failed to meet the midfielder’s financial requirements.
Chelsea is expected to reluctantly approve a sale if a new agreement is not reached promptly this summer.

Indeed, losing a highly valuable asset for free would be extremely poor business, especially since Gallagher is a homegrown talent. The sales of indigenous stars indicate pure profit in the books.

Villa have already reached a verbal deal to sign Luton Town’s Ross Barkley for £5 million. Nonetheless, boss Unai Emery is determined to strengthen his midfield ahead of the Champions League season.

Emery rates Gallagher highly, and Chelsea’s interest in striker Jhon Duran could benefit Villa.

Furthermore, Chelsea and Aston Villa have good relations following Carney Chukwuemeka’s transfer in 2022.

Gallagher’s fee disclosed; Tottenham to intercede
In terms of Gallagher’s cost, Chelsea has stated unequivocally that it is £50 million or bust.

That is a significant investment for a player who will be a free agent in just 12 months.

Nonetheless, Villa are still moving forward with their ambitions to sign Gallagher, and they expect heavy competition from Tottenham.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is a major fan of Gallagher and considered signing him in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are expected to come in with their own proposal, and the presence of two suitors will boost Chelsea’s prospects of raising the entire £50 million.

Sky also provided insight into how Chelsea arrived with that transfer valuation.

The Blues believe Gallagher is a more well-rounded player than Mason Mount was when he left for Manchester United a year ago. This is despite Mount earning back-to-back Chelsea Player of the Year accolades in 2020-21 and the 2021/22 seasons.

Mount signed Manchester United for £50 million, with £5 million in add-ons. As a result, Chelsea hopes to earn a similar amount for Gallagher, and will not profit from the notoriously free-spending Manchester United being among the bidders.
